The weekend of October 14 and 15, 2023, marked the debut of InGRAVEL Morellino, the new event dedicated to gravel bike, MTB, and e-bike enthusiasts in Tuscany, held in the spectacular landscapes of Morellino di Scansano, in the heart of Maremma. The first edition attracted cyclists from all over Italy, confirming the growing interest in the gravel world and outdoor experiences that combine sport, nature, and food and wine.
Two days of cycling through the hills of Morellino di Scansano
For two days, the Tuscan Maremma became the hub for cycling enthusiasts, offering routes through vineyards, white roads, and breathtaking views. On Saturday, October 14, participants could choose between two itineraries: a 47 km route with 1,100 meters of elevation gain and a 75 km route with 1,800 meters of elevation gain. Both routes passed through some of the most picturesque spots in Maremma.
The challenge of the Muro del Pirata
Among the most iconic moments of the event was the social ride on Sunday, October 15, during which participants tackled the famous Muro del Pirata (Pirate’s Wall), a challenging climb that has become a symbol of the event.
Refreshments and flavors of Maremma
Along the 75 km route, there were four refreshment points in iconic locations such as Roccapesta and Monte Po. Participants were able to taste typical local products and enjoy an experience that combined cycling with food and wine. The final refreshment at the Antico Casale di Scansano Resort, the event’s start and finish point, concluded the weekend in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
Special guests
Among the brand ambassadors present: Riccardo Magrini, Marta Giunti, and Alessandro Ballan. Their presence helped make the weekend even more special.
The territory takes center stage
Thanks to the support of the Morellino di Scansano Consortium, the event represented an important opportunity to promote the Tuscan Maremma through cycle tourism, highlighting its scenic beauty, wineries, and local hospitality.
A debut looking to the future
The first edition of InGRAVEL Morellino has made a significant mark on the gravel event scene in Tuscany, laying the foundation for the event’s growth in the coming years.
